Walking a New Path: A Single Shoe Makes a Difference for Amputees and Communities

A chain of department stores recently found themselves with thousands of single display shoes that had lost their pairs. 

These shoes had accumulated over time, creating a significant problem. The stores needed a sustainable and affordable way to dispose of them, but their options were limited.

Mounting Pressure

Finding a way to dispose of the single shoes was not easy. The department stores faced several hurdles. Discounters and liquidators couldn’t take them because they only accept complete pairs. Recycling the shoes was another option, but the cost was too high. 

The idea of sending the shoes to a landfill was not acceptable, as it would be too wasteful. The stores needed a solution that was both cost-effective and environmentally friendly, but none seemed to be in sight.

A Soleful Solution

That’s where Happen Ventures came in. Known for our innovative & sustainable solutions, we saw an opportunity to make a difference. We collaborated with non-profit organizations and local partners to address the problem. 

Together, we found a way to repurpose the single shoes by distributing them to veteran amputees and community members who only needed one shoe or had different-sized feet. This solution not only prevented waste but also provided much-needed support to those in need.

A Lasting Legacy

The success of this project has shown that even the most unusual problems can have meaningful solutions.
